The Dresden Files

Here's the place to discuss science fiction and fantasy TV and Web series, plus their characters, actors, and crew.

The Dresden Files

New postby Victoria Winters » Thu Sep 04, 2008 9:04 pm

I'm still into the books but Barnabas discovered a lovely copy of the first season of the Dresden Files on dvd. I'm about half way through the set so far and am enjoying it for what it is. Of course I am biased because of the books, but I really like how Bob is portrayed. :D
Has anyone else been able to catch all of these and are there more?

No sadly they aren't available in Aus. which is a major bummer.. There's not even a release date for it here yet. At least i can't find one.
They are only avaible from America at the moment and i'm still determining whether or not they come with english subs.. A lot of the actually don't which is a really big annoyance..
I hope there will be more coming...

Sadly, I didn't even know that there was a show, thought it was just a book series.

I found one. It's called bittorrent and writable DVD's :D

I made my own DVD set for it because i was tired of waiting. Just straight up show though, no fancy menu's or added features.

I've had some trouble getting to the post office (working arvo's) so if you want the DVD's, too, just let me know. I'm sure you could DL just the .srt files and re-burn them. It really is a good series, a little light on the magic to begin with (budget) but the latest episodes are gold.

I did. The show may not have lasted long, but it sparked my love in the Dresden files. A friend of mine was always suggesting new tv shows and she recommended I watch The Dresden Files. about 3 episodes in I ordered the first 3 books. By the time the series had done airing i was caught up on the books. I'll always love the series, because without it I might never of read the Dresden Files, or the Codex Alera.

But TDFTVS (the Dresden files TV show) is just one of the reasons I'm unhappy with Sci-fi. They had it hanging in limbo for so long before the axe fell.

So, Victoria. Just the 12 or so episodes (make sure you see 'Things That Go Bump'), but they are all worth the watching.

Terrance Mann portrayed Bob excellent. I STILL hear his voice when I read, even after a year.

(I'm all over the place. Lacking sleep :))

I guess that I got lucky then. My used set was just $16 and has all 12 shows. I'm on #8 Storm Front (fond book memories :D ) and Things That Go Bump is #11 so I can't wait to sink my teeth into it. So to speak. 8)
I may be able to locate another used copy for the same price from the place's warehouse and have it sent to the store where I do business if anyone else is interested in a used but good copy. They do have subtitles but are only region 1. I will be happy to scrounge if anyone would like me to try. :)
Thank you for all the info Telkesh. 8)

Aaron, Miss Winters sent me a text. She doesn't expect to be able to get online tonight but wanted me to pass on that she had success in finding your dvds. SO... now she needs your address and they will be on their way. You might want to shoot her a PM :)

The dvd set is like the books in a different way for me. I get about 2/3 the way through a book or the set and I have to finish the rest all in one sitting. :)

I know that feeling. If you're lucky you can take the first 2/3 at your own leisure, but when you get closer to the end everything starts coming together.

And since we've talked about the Dresden Files enough in the reading thread I'll make this note here:
Jim Butcher stated that he will be writing about 23 Dresden Files books currently. It might grow later.

I feel bad for the guy. If he writes 3.5 books a year he'll still have ideas until he's 85 (his words).
The Codex Alera is ending after book 6, then he's moving onto his sci-fi series which sounds pretty exciting.
