Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3

Here's the place to discuss games with a science fiction or fantasy theme – board games, card games, LARPs, RPGs, online games, PC games, and games played on systems such as PlayStation, Wii, Xbox, etc.

Heyhey! I have a conundrum for you console fans.

I've recently saved up a bit of money and if I have any left over after my Melbourne trip I want to buy a console. I had my heart set of the 360 but then someone told me to 'man up' and get a ps3. So what do I go with?

My brother has an xbox 360, which means game trading and general saving (i.e halo 3 and assassin's creed i can borrow). But why I want a next gen is for Final Fantasy XIII. Which will be available on both.

so which do I pick?

Sadly, I can't help you there. I guess you need to look at the Genre you usually play and see which platform offers most of them. I know my son plays his xbox more then his ps2. The game he plays most on the ps2 is kingdom hearts but his xbox is usually playing Halo, Spiderman or LOTR. I rarely play but when I do, it's usually Fable on xbox. (I have my pc so I play things like WoW, Age of Empires, Civilization, Pharaoh, Cleopatra and Emperor)

i have a PS3 and love it. While the Xbox live is way more sophisticated that the playstation store at the moment (you can rent movies from there for a little as 17 cents a week) you can pretty much only download new and old school games and some and i mean some movie trailers.. But i've always been a playstation man so i'm probably biased. Oh and the other good thing about the PS3 is that its also a Bluray player which is a definite plus... no need to go out and buy a super expensive blu ray player...

well I like the 360 and the wii, plus 360 has come down huge in price, but the new PS system will be out soon...hard decision. Do you have anywhere that you can rent the different systems? If so rent and then decide.
I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of stars makes me dream.

Excellent idea Dementi.
Oh about 5% of television sets (including new ones) will not accept an Xbox nor an Xbox 360. Guess what, I got one of those and it's an RCA. However, I have experienced the Xbox scene at the homes of friends and think it's a great system for action and sports games. If you're more into role play and puzzle type games, the Playstation series will have more choices for you. I have sold both systems at former jobs.

what are you trying to do?
I'm actually playing Halo 2 on the PC atm... but i think i will have to get an XBox 360 for Halo 3.. Bungie has gone their separate ways from microsoft and taken the Halo rights with them so microsoft can't release Halo 3 on pc...

I've never used an emulator but friends talk about it. i guess it's a way of tricking a console game into thinking your PC is it's console. I haven't loved a Console game emphatically since Turbo Graphix 16 was still around so I never bothered to try it. I prefer PC games. :D

Well, Aaron, my friend has all 3 Halo games for Xbox already and is afraid to buy the system just for those games cause the new ones here have a bad habit of dying less than 8 months after purchase. He would rather not invest in a new system at this time. Perhaps you could pm me some info on any of those pc games please. :)
Thanks for the explaination Raven. 8)
Thanks for the help dear friends. :D

Ok after extensive research i have decided not to go with the xbox... I read many people have problems with it like the Red Ring Of Death and other assorted problems.. Maybe your just lucky enough to get a good one Erik.. So i reckon i'll just go and hire the console itself, hire the game and then just have a couple of days of extreme gaming then return when the time is up...
So i'm gonna stick with my beloved PS3...
