LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Michael Crichton, a best-selling author, died in Los Angeles on Tuesday, his public relations firm said in a news release.

He "died unexpectedly," the release said, "after a courageous and private battle against cancer."

2008 is wrapping up to be a bad year for the geek population.

He's dead? WOW! I didn't even know he was sick!
What do you say to something like that....
Life is fun, death is peaceful, it is usually the transition that is painful.....

As someone who had to accept death once more this week I'd suggest you say what I do. Life is an important gift, but it is fragile. It can be lost suddenly and you shouldn't let it be wasted.
Live each day to the best you can and, above all else, let those who are important to you know it, not just by your words, but by your actions.
There is nothing in life that is more important then those who are close to you. Money and possessions come and go, but the love that binds you is eternal, and that love is the one gift you can give that will always be there, even when you're not.

*coughs* Yeah. I don't handle death too well, at least the death of those I know personally. I get 'soapy' as my best friend calls it, lol.

That was really very nice mate...

I don't think anyone handles death well, whether they like to admit or not....

Well said Telk!

Everyone handles death differently, I think it is the lesson that we take away from it that is important.

I just happened to meet his sister-in-law at an Arts and Crafts festival here in Georgia. She makes prints for handbags and the like. She said his absence was still felt strongly by everyone in the family. R.I.P. Michael Crichton.

I would imagine so! For such a creative mind like that to pass on, any life in fact is a tragedy...
