The Dresden Files (Spoilers)

Here's the place to discuss science fiction and fantasy books, plus their authors.

The Dresden Files (Spoilers)

New postby Aaron_0105 » Wed Oct 29, 2008 6:55 pm

This should have been done awhile ago methinks....
What's there not to love about the Dresden Files? whether it be the books or the much loved and short lived telly series...
Didn't you say, Telkesh, that Jim has plans to write another ten novels?
You watch, he will be the next head of the white council... or he will be after the one that replaces the arrogant dork that's in charge now.... First he will be in charge of all the Wardens then he will be the top dog... And he will also stop the war he started... But with Susan... i don't think he will ever find a cure...
I sure will enjoy finding out if i'm wrong or not!
Life is fun, death is peaceful, it is usually the transition that is painful.....

Yes, that pain-in-the-butt Merlin needs to go!! Me and Captain Nemo so often have said, "Damn, poor Harry." That whole bad thing with Susan really takes it though.

Jim said he had planned for about 23 Dresden Files books, so another 13 to go.

Before I say too much where is everyone up to? Because I've got a few nasty words about that Merlin, too :)

I just have to wait for Small Favours to make it to paperback otherwise i'm up to date?

I must say though the urge to get it in hardback is getting harder and harder to ignore...

I have not read White Night yet and won't be for a few more days. When I get back from my trip on Nov. 11, I will probably be where Aaron is, or very close to it. :)

Perhaps you have a 'hip' and 'with it' public library Aaron? Then you could check out the hardback and buy the paperback later. Unless you're like me and owe the library too much money. Most libraries will order books that they don't carry normally or transfer it from another branch for you. Just an idea.

Sit on your hiney in the library and read for half of the day. That way you don't actually have to check the book out, just kinda horde it.

I have no willpower compared to you. Bought it a while ago and have the next two books (Backup! and the new Fury book) on pre-order already.

I'd consider loaning you my copy, but it's $10 postage each way, almost half the cost of the book :P

I was thinking about writing up a small intro to the Dresden files, for other fans here. But I'd have no idea where to start. :)

Who is your favourite Character?

Or to make it easier who's your favourite character for each of the genres (good guy, bad guy, supernatural creature, etc.)?

Smart thinkin' Aaron. Mel can find such wonderful things in the public library.

Harry is my favourite character by far.
After that, favourite good guy is Butters. And though he hasn't made an appearance yet (at least at my stage in the stories) I really dig Harry's landlord, that guy/gal must be a saint for allowing Harry to still be living in the same place after all of the crap that has happened to it. Not to mention how many times his rent has been late.
Favourite all around bad guy, Nicodemus. I couldn't think of a favourite bad guy that wasn't supernatural.
And favourite supernatural character, Bob. :D
I don't have a favourite book really, each one that I read becomes the new favourite in a way.

The Merlin is the head of the White Council! How come you have him as a bad guy?

Good guy: Of course, Harry is my favourite, but I also have a soft spot for Bob and Molly, lately.
I think overall my favourite character, besides Harry, is Tomas.
Bad Guy: Gentleman Johnnie Marcone.
Bad supernatural group: I won't mention the latest group of bad guys that is forming up, but they sound pretty scary. Other then that I'd go with the Whites. If you gotta get your life sucked out of you... at least with the Whites you can have fun at the same time.
Good supernatural group: A few books ago it would of been the Alphas, but Harry's out of their league now and they just sit around playing D&D all day and killing trolls all night.
So I'd go with the Knights of the Cross. Sanya is great. He was given a holy sword that contains one of the nails of the cross, by an archangel no less, and he is still an atheist.

Favourite book is a toughy. They each have their own storyline, but they each add to the overall line. I think Turncoat will turn out to be a great book. A good old-fashioned detective novel, chasing down a fugitive, with a lot of the Black Council in it.
I'm also eagerly awaiting Backup!

Oh yeah, Sanya is a super cool character. :)
I could see why Aaron views the Merlin as a bad guy. I guess he's just more of a bastard than a bad guy or good guy. To me anyway.

Exactly! He is in Harry's bad books...
Nice to see we agree on who the best bad guys are... Wonder how hot Tomas' sister is? hmmm..... die a happy man...
I forgot about Johnnie and his beefcake sidekick... Hendricks... What's his first name anyway?

Hendricks' first name appears to be 'Mr' :)

I have an idea about exactly how evil the Merlin is... but i think it's based on a suspicion I got in Small Favour/White Night, so it might be a spoiler.
